WEST CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — A former Coatesville Area School District athletic director who abruptly resigned amid a racist and sexist text messaging scandal in 2013 has pleaded guilty to theft charges.

The Daily Local News reports (http://bit.ly/28RnqpH ) 51-year-old James Donato III appeared Monday in Chester County court and pleaded guilty to charges of theft by failure to make required disposition of funds and a state ethics violation.

As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors, Donato was forced to immediately make a restitution payment of $15,000 to the school district.

Prosecutors say Donato regularly kept funding that was supposed to go directly to the district for use of their athletic facilities between December 2009 and his August 2013 resignation.

Donato faces the possibility of prison time when he's sentenced on Aug. 12.
