This is Fred Ball for Zions Bank, speaking on business. Dwane Ovard likes things organized. You know, a place for everything and everything in its place. Naturally, he would go into a business that helps individuals keep things organized, convenient and attractive.
Classy Closets Etc., in St. George is in the business of putting a little class in your closets. The "etc." in the name also lets you know that they create all kinds of shelving, storage units, computer workstations, office units and other built-in furniture.
Classy Closets started in 1984 in Phoenix, Ariz. Dwane started the first franchise in Las Vegas and commuted from his home in St. George to operate the business. Chad McAllister, a son-in-law, joined with Dwane in 1989. Initially the St. George part of the business operated out of Chad's garage. That was fine for a time, but soon demand their service forced them to search for additional space.
In 1996, Dwane, Chad, and Dwane's sons Brad and Mike, found new facilities at 1316 So. 400 East in St. George. They purchased new, state-of-the-art equipment, including a $100,000 computer-controlled saw, and the business continued to grow. Now, five years after that move, the company is ready to expand again. This time, they'll push out the walls to secure additional room for handling the demand from their growing clientele.
I told Dwane that I had noticed several of this year's Parade of Homes entries had work accomplished by Classy Closets. I was told that there were a total of five units that featured their handy work. Classy Closets gets 50 percent of its business from new construction and fifty percent from remodeling jobs. Both areas of the business look positive for the future, and the growing demographics of the area bode well for the company.
The family divides the workload according to each person's specialty. Dwane is involved with selling and generating business. Brad and Chad each run crews of installers, and Mike supervises work in the shop. They are a great team that works with a totality of effort to produce great results for the organized people of Washington County.
