NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Sentencing dates for ex-NFL star Darren Sharper have been pushed back to late August.
Sharper had been set for sentencing in state and federal courts in New Orleans this week. The changes give prosecutors time to evaluate Sharper's cooperation in the case involving his Louisiana co-defendants in a drug and sexual assault case.
Brandon Licciardi (lih-CHAR'-dee) and Erik Nunez are set for a July 11 federal trial. They also face state charges related to allegations involving the drugging and raping of women.
Sharper has pleaded guilty or no-contest to related charges in state courts in Arizona, Nevada and California; and in state and federal courts in Louisiana. A judge rejected a nine-year sentence in Sharper's original plea deal and has noted federal guidelines calling for a 15-to-20-year sentence.
