ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Investigators are casting a wide net as they try to determine what motivated Omar Mateen to open fire at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, killing 49 people. The FBI is checking reports that Mateen was often at the club. And they're also looking at whether his wife knew anything beforehand about the shooting.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) — More than 50 law enforcement personnel are searching a lagoon in Orlando, Florida, after an alligator dragged away a 2-year-old boy. The attack happened Tuesday evening, as the boy and his family were wading near Disney's upscale Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. The family was vacationing from Nebraska.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The Federal Reserve wraps up its latest two-day policy meeting today. And it's expected that the Fed will leave interest rates alone for now. The Fed had been expected to consider raising rates at its June meeting, but that changed after May's government report said employers had added just 38,000 jobs to the economy.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities in Los Angeles say a dispute between homeless people living together in an abandoned office building likely led one of them to set a fire that killed five others. Twenty-one-year-old Johnny Sanchez is under arrest for suspicion of murder in Monday night's blaze.
DETROIT (AP) — A funeral is scheduled for this morning in Detroit for hockey great Gordie Howe, who died Friday at the age of 88. Yesterday, thousands of people paid their respects to Howe at Joe Louis Arena, the home of the Detroit Red Wings. It was Howe's team for more than two decades.
