SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah's Hogle Zoo "always" has safety as its top priority, a spokeswoman said after the escape of a rare Amur leopard Tuesday.
Zeya, who has been with the zoo less than a year, was able to escape her enclosure sometime Tuesday morning. Zookeepers restrained visitors to gift shops and other buildings while they located and tranquilized the animal.
Spokeswoman Erica Hansen told reporters events like this are the reason why the zoo regularly holds emergency drills.
