NEW YORK (AP) — Camelot Kitten won by a neck Saturday in the $200,000 Pennine Ridge for 3-year-olds on the turf at Belmont Park.
The top four finishers were separated by only a length in the blanket finish.
The 9-5 favorite kicked home strongest of all to earn a second straight stakes victory, both by narrow margins. He captured the American Turf by a head on the Kentucky Derby undercard at Churchill Downs.
The two-stakes winning streak coincides with the decision by trainer Chad Brown to equip the colt with blinkers, which restrict a horse's field of vision.
"He's a horse that's starting to figure it all out," Brown said.
Camelot Kitten was one of three runners in the race for Brown. Call Provision was third, only a nose shy of second-place finisher Highland Sky. Converge finished seventh.
Irad Ortiz Jr was aboard for the 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.25 over the firm course.
The Pennine Ridge was the local prep for the $1.25 million Belmont Derby on July 9.
Camelot Kitten paid $5.80, $3 and $2.50.
Highland Sky returned $3.50 and $2.60. Call Provision paid $4.40 to show.
Toughest 'Ombre, the pacesetter at 101-1, was the final member of the quartet in the photo finish.
