HILLSBORO, Ohio (AP) — Authorities say a father shot and killed his 1-year-old daughter before killing himself at a home in Ohio.
The Highland County sheriff's office says deputies responded to reports of a shooting and found 35-year-old Timothy Harewood dead with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound shortly after 3 p.m. Friday near Hillsboro.
Investigators say they also found his 1-year-old daughter dead inside the home with what appeared to be a single gunshot wound.
Witnesses told authorities that Harewood shot his daughter and then tried to shoot the girl's mother, who was sitting outside, but the gun misfired. A news release from the sheriff's office says that's when Harewood then turned the gun on himself.
The sheriff's office says Harewood struck the woman's face during the confrontation.
The shootings remain under investigation.
