SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Rookie striker Jacob Peterson scored in the 61st minute and the Colorado Rapids beat Real Salt Lake 1-0 Wednesday night to advance to the quarterfinals of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.
The Rapids will play the Los Angeles Galaxy on Aug. 23 at The Home Depot Center.
Peterson scored after Clint Mathis drew two defenders out of position with a run to the end line.
Just before reaching the line, he backheeled the ball into an open space behind him. Peterson rushed in and kicked it over the hands of RSL goalkeeper Jay Nolly.
