DETROIT (AP) — Charges have been filed in the shooting of a 2-year-old Detroit girl who suffered significant head injuries.
The three people charged Friday include Cleveland Smelley, the alleged gunman who was captured at a motel Thursday, a day after the shooting. He's charged with attempted murder and other crimes.
Smelley is in jail awaiting a court hearing Saturday. He doesn't have an attorney yet.
The Wayne County prosecutor's office says shots were fired at many people in a car Wednesday night. It was preceded by a fight, threats and the pouring of juice over the head of a woman preparing to go to prom.
Makanzee Oldham was shot in the head. She's in critical condition at St. John Hospital.
