HALLANDALE, Fla. (AP) — Police in Florida say an officer shot and killed a man during a burglary investigation.
Officers in Hallandale Beach were responding to reports of car break-ins Sunday when they came upon two men in a car. When the driver attempted to flee, an officer fired at least one round. Maj. Sonia Quinones said the officer feared for his life.
The driver was pronounced dead at an area hospital. A second suspect jumped out of the car, but was caught a few hours later.
Police did not release the identities of the officer or suspects but said in an email that the driver was black.
The officer will be placed on administrative leave with pay while the investigation continues.
