LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Officials at Arkansas Tech University and Henderson State University have approved tuition and fee increases for the upcoming school year.
The universities' decision Thursday adds to the list of colleges planning to hike rates as state funding for higher education institutions remains level, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette (http://bit.ly/1XFehjW ) reported.
The University of Arkansas System board plans to take up rates Wednesday, and the Arkansas State University System will meet at the beginning of June to set its schools' rates.
Southern Arkansas University trustees are scheduled to meet Thursday.
The University of Central Arkansas board is considering tuition and fee increases but hasn't set a date to vote.
Many of the institutions are setting the rates later than usual because the legislative fiscal session started at a later date and ended May 9.
At Arkansas Tech, officials approved a 1.86 percent increase in in-state residents' tuition from $215 per credit hour to $219 per credit hour for undergraduate students. The university is also adding on more to the health and transcript fees as well as changing its athletics fee structure.
A full-time, undergraduate, in-state resident student will now pay more than $8,200 in tuition and fees per year, up from more than $7,700.
At Henderson State, officials approved a 3.86 percent tuition increase from $207 per credit hour to $215 per credit hour for students beginning July 1. The board also raised the athletics fee by $1 and changed the student activity fee structure from a flat fee to a per-credit-hour fee.
A full-time, undergraduate, in-state resident student will now pay more than $8,100 in tuition and fees per year, up from more than $7,800.
