WASHINGTON (AP) — Donald Trump is meeting today with House Speaker Paul Ryan and other top Republicans who are leery of him. Trump tells Fox News Channel that he doesn't need the Republican leaders' support, but if they can reach a deal today, it "will be great."
BRASILIA, Brazil (AP) — Brazilian lawmakers have voted to impeach President Dilma Rousseff, who's accused of using accounting tricks to hide large budget deficits. Rousseff will be suspended and replaced for up to six months by Vice President Michel Temer pending a trial in the Senate. The trial will determine whether she can serve out her second term, or whether Temer, who's her ally-turned-enemy, will remain in the top job through the December 2018 end of the term.
TOKYO (AP) — Nissan will become the biggest investor in Mitsubishi, which has been rocked by a scandal over cheating on mileage tests on its minicar models. Nissan is taking a 34 percent stake in Mitsubishi Motors, investing $2.2 billion. Nissan Chief Carlos Ghosn (gohn) calls it "a win-win" deal.
LONDON (AP) —Secretary of State John Kerry is reassuring European banks they won't be penalized for conducting or facilitating legitimate business with Iran. Kerry and British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond are meeting with key European bankers in London today. They're working to clear up what Kerry says are misconceptions about U.S. sanctions on Iran that remain despite the nuclear deal with Tehran.
GOODYEAR, Ariz. (AP) — A solar-powered airplane that landed in Arizona last week is headed to Oklahoma on the latest leg of its around-the-world journey. The Swiss-made Solar Impulse 2 took off from Phoenix Goodyear Airport this morning with a destination of Tulsa International Airport. The globe-circling voyage began in March 2015 in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates. The plane is expected to make at least one more stop in the United States before crossing the Atlantic Ocean to Europe or northern Africa.
