CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Farmington golfer Danny Summerhays carded a 3-under-par 69 to finish tied for ninth place Thursday after the first day of the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The former BYU golfer dropped in an eagle on the Par-5 fifth hole before finishing the front nine at 2-under 34. He added birdies on Nos. 12 and 14 to finish tied with Phil Mickelson, Retief Goosen, Martin Laird, Blayne Barber, Martin Piller, Brian Harman and Boo Weekley.
Lehi’s Tony Finau shot 2-over 74 to finish tied for 101st on the day, and Ogden’s Zac Blair was 3-over for a 125th spot on the leaderboard.
Steve Wheatcroft and Andrew Loupe lead the field after the first day with a pair of 7-under 65 scores at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte.
