SODA SPRINGS, Idaho (AP) — A former detention officer at an eastern Idaho jail has been found guilty of having sex with a female inmate and destroying evidence.
The Idaho State Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1TLp8G5) that a 6th District Court jury on Wednesday convicted William Vorrasi of the two felonies following a five-day trial.
Court documents say Vorrasi had multiple sexual encounters with the inmate at the Caribou County Jail in December 2014.
Vorrasi also destroyed a blanket, resulting in a destruction of evidence conviction.
In June 2015 the female inmate filed a tort claim against Caribou County officials, a precursor to a lawsuit.
The claim was handled by the Idaho Counties Risk Management Program, which provides liability insurance for counties. Details haven't been released.
Vorrasi is scheduled to be sentenced June 30.
