CHESTER, Pa. (AP) — David Miller became the third driver in harness racing history to surpass $200 million in career purses when he guided 40-1 shot Hickory Chumley to victory Wednesday at Harrah's Philadelphia.
The 51-year-old Miller joined John Campbell and Ron Pierce as the only drivers with more than $200 million in earnings. Campbell tops the list with nearly $296 million, and Pierce has $215 million. All three are members of the Harness Racing Hall of Fame.
Miller, harness racing's Driver of the Year in 2015 and 2003, led the sport in purses in 2003 and has finished among the top seven in each of the last 17 years. He notched career win No. 11,698 with Hickory Chumley and ranks sixth in lifetime victories.
