ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Authorities in Florida say a 9-year-old girl is recovering after being shot in the leg while she was sleeping at a friend's house in Orlando.

Orange County Sheriff's spokeswoman Jane Watrel told local media that a group of people got out of a vehicle and started shooting into the home about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Watrel says some 30 shots were fired from three different guns. A man inside the house came outside and fired six rounds toward the vehicle.

Deputies are searching for witnesses to the shooting as well as a motive.

Watrel says the girl is expected to survive. She was staying at the home with family friends while her mother was out of town.

Six people, including other children, were inside the home at the time.
