LOS ANGELES (AP) — Federal prosecutors say three people connected to one of the San Bernardino shooters have been arrested in a marriage fraud conspiracy. They say those arrested include the brother and sister-in-law of shooter Syed Farook. The third person arrested is the wife of a friend of Farook's who has been charged for his alleged role in aiding the violence. The two women arrested are Russian immigrants. Prosecutors say the three participated in a marriage fraud conspiracy that involved lying under oath to obtain immigration benefits.
BAGHDAD (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden says there's been "serious" and "committed" progress toward defeating the Islamic State group -- despite a crippling political crisis in Iraq that brought him to the Iraqi capital today. He met separately with the country's prime minister and parliament speaker. The visit comes amid a wave of protests and demands for sweeping political reforms. The crisis has paralyzed a government already struggling with a dire economic situation and the fight against the Islamic State.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A senior U.S. official says about 16 U.S. military personnel, including one general officer, have been disciplined for mistakes that led to the bombing of a civilian hospital in Afghanistan last year that killed 42 people. U.S. officials say that the service members received administrative punishments, and no criminal charges were filed in connection with the U.S. airstrike in the northern city of Kunduz. A number of those punished are U.S. special operations forces. The full report on the investigation is expected to be released by the Pentagon tomorrow.
FORT WAYNE, Indiana (AP) — They never seemed like best buddies when John Boehner (BAY'-nur) was speaker of the House -- but now, we're finding out what he and Ted Cruz really think of each other. Boehner told students at Stanford University in California yesterday that Cruz is "Lucifer in the flesh" -- and the "most miserable" person he's ever worked with. Cruz responds that he never actually worked with Boehner, because the then-speaker refused his invitation for talks about the partial government shutdown three years ago. Cruz adds that if "you want a president like John Boehner, Donald Trump is your man."
SOUTH SHORE, Ky. (AP) — Amid extra security, a funeral has been held for one of eight people shot in rural southern Ohio in what authorities describe as a cold-blooded massacre targeting one family. The gathering today in Kentucky for 38-year-old Gary Rhoden is the first of three planned funerals for the victims. Seven adults and a 16-year-old boy from the Rhoden family were found dead April 22 at four properties near Piketon, about 80 miles east of Cincinnati.
