LONDON (AP) — Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli's season is over after being banned for three matches for punching an opponent.
An English Football Association disciplinary commission rejected Alli's bid to avoid the automatic three-match ban.
The incident on Monday in the 1-1 Premier League draw with West Bromwich Albion was missed by the referee, allowing the FA to take retrospective action.
In the 26th minute at White Hart Lane, Alli swung a punch at Claudio Yacob's stomach. It came a day after he was named young player of the year by the Professional Footballers' Association.
Tottenham is second in the league, seven points behind Leicester with three games remaining.
The ban will give the 20-year-old Alli a rest before the European Championship, where he is likely to make England's squad.
