MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The sister of pop music superstar Prince says he had no known will. And she's filed paperwork asking a Minneapolis court to appoint a special administrator to oversee his estate. Prince died at age 57 on Thursday at his estate in suburban Minneapolis. No cause of death has yet been released. Tyka Nelson is his only surviving full sibling. Amid the outpouring of nostalgia over the pop star's death, Prince's heirs could stand to inherit a small fortune.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — North Carolina Democrats are denouncing a comment from the Republican nominee for state attorney general -- who yesterday urged a crowd to "keep our state straight." The comment from State Sen. Buck Newton came at a rally in support of a state law that limits protections for the LGBT community. Newton had helped to steer that legislation through his chamber. The North Carolina Democratic Party issued a statement calling the comments hateful and discriminatory.
BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraq's parliament is endorsing a partial Cabinet reshuffle proposed by the country's prime minister. The lawmakers are bowing to mounting public pressure for reform, including mass protests led by an influential Shiite cleric. Thousands of followers of Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr had earlier massed outside the capital's heavily fortified Green Zone, calling for political reform and an end to corruption.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Senators from both parties have again reached a tentative deal to address a water crisis in Flint, Michigan, where lead-contaminated pipes have resulted in an ongoing public health emergency. Michigan's two Democratic senators say the agreement would authorize $170 million in grants and loans to replace the city's lead-contaminated pipes and other infrastructure. The measure would be included in a larger water resources bill moving forward in the Senate. A similar deal was derailed earlier this year after Republican Sen. Mike Lee of Utah objected.
FAIRVIEW, Okla. (AP) — Some Oklahoma residents are taking steps to secure property from tornadoes, fast-sweeping winds and potentially damaging large hail. Forecasters are predicting giant hail the size of grapefruits could fall on parts of the Great Plains today. A Chevy dealer in Oklahoma says he's been lining his new vehicles "bumper to bumper" inside the shop and even the lobby to protect them from the hail, which he calls "the real enemy of the car dealer."
