DETROIT (AP) — A Detroit-area Chihuahua is being nursed by a cat after its mother was struck and killed by a car when the puppy was two days old.

The Michigan Humane Society says it is caring for the 5-week-old puppy named, "Bobby," which has been placed with the cat, "Gwen," and her litter of kittens.

The nonprofit organization says the blended family will be in the home of a Humane Society foster caregiver until "Bobby" and the kittens are old enough for permanent homes.

Humane Society spokesman Ryan McTigue says "it's a misconception that cats and dogs can't get along, and as we see ... they can often become loving family members."
