NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — A former Oklahoma congressman who served for 16 years in the U.S. House before dying of cancer at age 45 will have thousands of his documents and other accumulated items open for public display at the University of Oklahoma.
Democrat Mike Synar's congressional collection will be shown beginning Friday, April 22, in Norman at the University of Oklahoma's Carl Albert Congressional Research and Studies Center's archives in Monnet Hall.
The Center also will host a panel discussion on April 21 at the OU College of Law about Synar's legacy on budget politics and his role in a key U.S. Supreme Court case on the constitutionality of a deficit-reduction plan.
Both events are free and open to the public.
Synar was defeated for re-election in 1994 and died in 1996.
