NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Former New Orleans Saints player Will Smith has been shot to death in an apparent road rage incident. The New Orleans coroner says the 34-year-old former defensive end died "of multiple gunshot wounds" after a traffic accident last night. Police say Smith was driving a Mercedes that was hit from behind by a Hummer. Police say the two drivers exchanged words before the driver of the Hummer pulled out a gun and shot Smith multiple times. Smith's wife was also shot and was taken to a hospital. The Hummer driver was taken into custody.
BEIRUT (AP) — Syrian activists say the Islamic State group has launched a major offensive along the Turkish border, seizing two villages near a border town captured by Western-backed rebels two days ago. The activist-run Azaz Media Center, based in a northern town of the same name, calls it the fiercest Islamic State offensive in a year. An IS-linked news agency claims the capture of the two villages and says a suicide operation targeted rebel fighters in an opposition-held town.
BAGHDAD (AP) — An Iraqi official says displaced families are returning to the western city of Ramadi three months after Iraqi forces backed by U.S.-led airstrikes drove out the Islamic State group. The city's mayor says "thousands" have returned. He says local authorities are only allowing families to return to areas that have been cleared of mines and other booby traps planted by Islamic State fighters.
MINSK, Belarus (AP) — Ukraine's embattled prime minister says he is resigning, opening the way for the formation of a new government to end a drawn-out political crisis. In a televised address today, Arseniy Yatsenyuk (ahr-SEHN'-ee yaht-sehn-YOOK') said his resignation would be formally submitted to parliament on Tuesday. His Cabinet survived a no-confidence vote in February, but two parties left the governing coalition in protest, depriving the coalition of its majority in the Ukrainian parliament.
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — A SpaceX Dragon cargo ship has arrived at the International Space Station, two days after launching from Cape Canaveral. The Dragon holds 7,000 pounds of freight, including the world's first inflatable room for astronauts. The soft-sided compartment built by Bigelow Aerospace could change the way astronauts live in space. The pioneering pod will be attached to the space station but will stay sealed off except when astronauts enter a few times a year to collect measurements and swap out sensors.
