PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The verbal attacks between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders are heating up as they get closer to New York's April 19 primary. Clinton on Wednesday questioned Sanders' truthfulness, preparedness for the presidency and loyalty to Democratic party principles. Sanders accused Clinton of "taking tens of millions of dollars in special-interest funds" and also said Clinton's not qualified to be president because of her vote on the war in Iraq and her support for trade agreements that are harmful to American workers.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Thousands of people filled a massive Long Island soundstage for Donald Trump's first rally of his New York campaign swing. His rival Ted Cruz met Wednesday with diners at a restaurant in New York City's Bronx section. He was met by protesters who told him he should "get out of the Bronx." Cruz replied only that he was "happy to be here." The Republican presidential candidates are getting ready for New York's April 19 primary.
UNITED NATIONS (AP) — An escalation in fighting in Darfur has forced 138,000 people to flee their homes since mid-January. And the U.N. peacekeeping chief says there's no end in sight to the 13-year conflict in Sudan's vast western region. Herve Ladsous painted a grim picture Wednesday to the U.N. Security Council of the upsurge in fighting in Darfur. The government has blocked access to the joint U.N.-African Union peacekeeping force and humanitarian organizations.
NEEDLES, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a wildfire has begun to ease in Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, but not before burning through some 2 miles of brush. The blaze began before dawn Wednesday in western Arizona, and gusty winds pushed flames into California, jumping the Colorado River. A resort and RV parks were evacuated.
NEW DELHI (AP) — Another blogger has been killed in Bangladesh. Police say 28-year-old Nazimuddin Samad was hacked and shot to death Wednesday night as he was walking with a friend in the capital of Dhaka. Samad was an outspoken atheist in a Muslim majority country. No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
