SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Steve Henson, a member of Lon Kruger's Oklahoma men's basketball coaching staff for five years, has been chosen to be the head men's basketball coach at Texas-San Antonio.

In a statement Friday, UTSA said Henson will be introduced as coach of the Conference USA's Roadrunners on April 8.

At Oklahoma, Henson helped mentor the Sooners' guards, including two-time Big 12 Conference Player of the Year Buddy Hield.

Previously, Henson served as an assistant on Kruger's UNLV staff in 2004-11 after one season as an assistant at South Florida in 2003-04, two at the NBA's Atlanta Hawks and one at Illinois.

Henson was a starting point guard for four seasons at Kansas State in 1986-90, earning honorable mention All-America and team captain honors in his final two seasons.
