UNDATED (AP) — The stock market will be coming off its first weekly loss since mid-February on Monday. It was a short week because the market was closed for Good Friday. The Dow closed up 13 points on Thursday. The S&P 500 slipped a point. And the Nasdaq inched up 4 ½ points. Trading was relatively quiet ahead of the Easter weekend.
UNDATED (AP) — Oil prices are down again after a period of sustained gains. Concerns over excess supplies weighed on the market. Benchmark U.S. crude fell 33 cents, or 0.8 percent on Thursday, to close at $39.46 a barrel in New York. Brent crude, the benchmark for international oils, slipped 3 cents to $40.44 a barrel in London.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Consumer spending and home construction are helping sustain modest U.S. economic growth despite problems caused by a strong dollar, low oil prices and an excess of business stockpiles. The government says the economy, as measured by the gross domestic product, grew at a 1.4 percent annual rate in the October-December period.
OMAHA, Neb. (AP) — ConAgra Foods is liable for $108.9 million in a civil lawsuit stemming from a fatal 2009 plant explosion in North Carolina. The Omaha World Herald reports a Nebraska jury has found the Omaha-based food company was negligent in the Slim Jim plant explosion that killed four people. A ConAgra spokesman says they have multiple grounds for appeal.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Studio estimates say "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" earned an impressive $27.7 million from its preview screenings. Warner Bros. says the haul from the Thursday night showings includes $3.6 million from IMAX screens. The film stars Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill as the dueling superheroes and cost a reported $250 million to produce.
