MARCH SADNESS — There’s another side to the exuberance, the glory and the “One Shining Moment”-narrated joy of the NCAA Tournament as underdogs prevail, double-digit seeds advance and March Madness sweeps the nation.

We’ll call it March Sadness.

And like everything else in today’s social media-saturated age, it even has its own hashtag.

Here are some of the saddest moments from the weekend’s opening two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Click any related videos at your own risk.

Sad Bill Murray is sad

Wisconsin guard Bronson Koenig sent the Badgers to the Sweet 16 with a stunning 66-63 win over second-seeded Xavier on this buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

That wasn’t the worst part, though. Bill Murray — yes, that Bill Murray — was on hand supporting his son, Luke, who is an assistant coach for the Musketeers.

And like a certain photo depicting a crying Michael Jordan, his stunned face quickly flooded the Internet.

Poor Bill.

Crying saxophonist is crying

Remember last year’s crying piccolo player, who bravely trudged on during Villanova’s 71-68 loss in last year’s Sweet 16?

If not, here’s a reminder.

Well, she’s been replaced. Kentucky’s loss to Indiana in the Round of 32 produced this moment from a saxophone player who wore her emotions on her sleeve — and on camera — but bravely soldiered on to perform her job.

Note to self: If playing an instrument in college, show no emotion. None. At all.

Sad UNI fans are disappointed

Northern Iowa had one foot in the Sweet 16 until Texas A&M erased a 12-point deficit in the final 34 seconds of regulation to force overtime.

And then the dagger — the Aggies won, 92-88 in double overtime.

You think that’s sad? Imagine how these Panther fans felt watching their team’s late collapse.

Dancing Providence band is dancing

OK, we won’t leave you with nothing but doom and gloom.

Providence’s band handled the Friar’s loss to North Carolina this weekend pretty well, it seems. Check out this epic dance battle between the two teams.

March gladness.
