UNDATED (AP) — Up to 3 more feet of snow is expected in the higher elevations of California's Sierra Nevada through tomorrow. A California Highway Patrol officer is hospitalized with major injuries after being struck by an out-of-control vehicle as he provided traffic control on a snowy mountain pass. In the Deep South, rain and flooding are the issue. Downpours — part of a system affecting Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Tennessee and Alabama — submerged roads and cars, washed out bridges and forced residents to flee homes. Louisiana has at least three deaths.
NEW YORK (AP) — The search resumes at daybreak for two missing crew members of a tug boat that sank in the Hudson River north of New York City after hitting a stationary construction barge. The two are presumed dead and a third crew member is confirmed to have been killed. None of the workers on the construction barge were hurt.
BRANDON, Fla. (AP) — A head-on collision in Florida has killed a sheriff's deputy and a wrong-way driver. Authorities say Hillsborough County Sheriff's Deputy John Robert Kotfila Jr. had just left a hospital Saturday where he had been working on a crash investigation. The crash occurred on the Selmon Expressway near Tampa.
CLEVELAND (AP) — The discord surrounding the presidential campaign appearances of Republican Donald Trump continues to overshadow the actual battle for the GOP nomination. Trump rivals Marco Rubio and John Kasich say they might not be able to support the front-runner if he's the party candidate in November. Trump opponents have dogged his rallies, resulting in scuffles and even the cancellation of an event.
WASHINGTON (AP) — In case anyone's forgotten, daylight saving time is upon us. That means an extra hour of sunlight in the evening in the months ahead. The time change officially began at 2 a.m. local time. There's no time change in Hawaii, most of Arizona, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam and the Northern Marianas.
