MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester United says it is holding talks with fan groups in an effort to stop them from signing about soccer tragedies.

During the team's 2-0 loss to Liverpool in the Europa League on Thursday, United fans sang about the Hillsborough disaster in which 96 Liverpool fans were killed. Many Liverpool supporters responded by booing.

United says "it has always been the position of Manchester United that chants of this nature, which refer to historical tragedies, have no place in the game."

The team adds "we are in discussion with our fans' groups to seek their support in preventing this type of behavior."
