LAS VEGAS (AP) — The top cop in Las Vegas wants more police patrolling the Strip and downtown, amid a recent series of high-profile crimes in the city's marquee tourist areas. Las Vegas police government affairs director Chuck Callaway says Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo is seeking funds to hire 67 patrol officers for the Strip, and seven more for Fremont Street.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A judge found probable cause to keep a 30-year-old ex-convict jailed ahead of an initial court appearance on murder charges in a car-to-car shooting that killed two women and critically wounded a man just off the Las Vegas Strip. Omar Jamal Talley is scheduled in court tomorrow on felony murder, attempted murder and firing a weapon charges.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — The manager of a Sparks bowling alley is investigating after a child fell eight feet from a piece of play equipment. The Reno Gazette-Journal reports that the 3-year-old boy's mother says he was knocked unconscious Saturday after falling from a climbing maze at Wild Island's Coconut Bowl.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A Southern California man is suing Las Vegas police, alleging excessive force by officers who he says punched, beat and choked him with a baton during a reggae concert last year at the Hard Rock hotel-casino. Attorney Cal Potter says video of the arrest of Ian Tuuamalemalo (too-ah-Mah-lay-MAH'-loh) shows what Potter calls "an organized riot on the part of the police."
