BOSTON, Jul 27, 2006 (UPI via COMTEX) -- The British novel "High Fidelity" is set to continue its expansion into new entertainment genres when it becomes a musical production later this year.

Playbill reported that the Nick Hornby novel, which was turned into a movie of the same name by director Stephen Frears, will be adapted into a musical featuring Broadway regulars Jenn Colella and Will Chase as the romantic leads.

"High Fidelity," in all its forms, covers the life of a record store owner who contacts his ex-girlfriends to try to determine where he has gone wrong with his latest love interest.

The musical is set to premiere on Sept. 26 at the Colonial Theater in Boston and run through Oct. 22. Plans call for taking it to Broadway shortly thereafter.

Composer Tom Kitt and lyricist Amanda Green will provide the music and playwright David Lindsay-Abaire will write the book for the Walter Bobbie-helmed production, Playbill said.
