MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Jamel Waters scored 22 points with five rebounds, five assists and four steals to help Alabama State upset Alcorn State 73-60 on Monday night.

Corvon Butler had 12 points on a perfect night — he went 5 of 5 from the field and made both free-throw attempts. Terrance LeFlore added 11 points with five assists for the Hornets (11-15, 6-8 Southwestern).

Alcorn State, second in the conference, was led by DeAndre Davis with a career-high 26 points. Tamarcio Wilson added 13 points and Marquis Vance grabbed 10 rebounds.

Waters' layup 5 ½ minutes in gave Alabama State the lead for good. Alcorn State got within a point with 9:36 to go in the first half, but the Hornets then scored the next 12 points and led 34-23 at intermission.

Alcorn State (13-13, 11-4) trimmed its deficit to eight on Wilson's jumper with 2:25 remaining, but LeFlore scored on the next two possessions for the Hornets to ice it.
