The Mountain West Conference, in conjunction with partners CSTV and Comcast, has finalized its national and regional broadcast schedule for the 2006 football season. The league schedule was adjusted to accommodate nationally-televised games on Versus (currently OLN) and weekly regional double-headers on The mtn.
The latest announcements mean the Utes will play on national television (Versus, CSTV, Fox Sports Net) five times and regional TV (The mtn.) six times. The Utah-Utah State game on Sept. 16 will be broadcast locally on KJZZ. Despite the addition of several national TV games to Utah's schedule, none of its previously announced game times were affected. The only TBA time on the originally-released schedule-at Air Force on Nov. 18-is now slated for a 5:30 p.m. kickoff.
The partnership between the MWC and Comcast means that all of Utah's football games will be televised in the Salt Lake market: at the present time, Versus (OLN) and The mtn. on expanded basic cable and CSTV on digital cable. In addition, the national and regional exposure the Utes will receive by playing on Versus, CSTV and The mtn. is unprecedented in school history. With 22 million subscribers, Comcast is the largest cable operator in the United States, and its network Versus (the name will change from OLN in September) is seen in nearly 70 million homes nationwide. CSTV Networks, Inc., a part of the CBS Corporation, is the leading digital and cable programming company dedicated to college sports. Utah's season-opener at UCLA on September 2 will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Net.
The Mountain West Conference will also enjoy an unrivaled regional presence through The mtn. The mtn, which will flip on the switch September 2, is the first network devoted to a single conference and will broadcast MWC sporting events, as well as localized programming news and information, such as coaches shows, press conferences and campus features.
