SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Five Native American tribes in Utah have received $4.1 million in federal funds to improve reservation housing conditions for low-income families.
The Deseret News reports (http://bit.ly/1TpSL1B ) that the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development grant will go to the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation, the Northwester Band of the Shoshoni Nation, the Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah, the Skull Valley Band of Goshute Indians, and the Ute Indian Tribe of the Uintah and Ouray Reservation.
The Indian Housing Block Grant is distributed each year to support various community development and affordable housing projects in Indian and Alaska Native communities.
The amount allocated to each tribe is based on the needs of the community and other factors.
