COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — The president of the Danish Curling Association says that former European Championship bronze medalist Helle Simonsen has tested positive for a banned substance.

The association's president Susanne Slotsager says the 31-year-old Danish curler, who suffers from polycystic ovary syndrome, tested positive on Feb. 12 for a banned substance after taking a hormonal remedy as a pregnancy aid.

Slotsager said Tuesday that Simonsen has until Friday to provide an explanation, before a decision is taken by the World Curling Federation. She has been temporarily suspended until her case is decided.

Simonsen, who represented Denmark at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, was a member of the team that won bronze at the 2007 European Championships in Germany.
