A Provo family created their own iOS game. And all the kids, aged four to 17, learned new skills to make it possible.
It's called Crayons Go Berserk. And it came together after dad Michael Maughan told his kids about a nightmare he had as a child where his crayons had come to life and gone on the attack.
It took about a half a year to build between the five kids, with just a little help from their dad.
The game begins with a young child wanting to create some art on the computer instead of with crayons. The crayons get mad, and conspire to steal the computer to force the child to use crayons instead. The point of game is get get back the pieces of the computer while battling crazed crayon enemies and avoiding color bombs and other obstacles.
Kate Maughan- Age 17, a Senior at Timpview High School. She helped brainstorm ideas for the game, wrote the script, and created a character and an enemy crayon for the game.
Delaney Maughan- Age 15, a Freshman at Timpview High School. She helped brainstorm ideas, made the soundtrack for the game, and created a character, an enemy crayon, and the unicorn (coin).
Stuart Maughan- Age 10, a 5th grader at Rock Canyon Elementary. He brainstormed ideas, created an enemy crayon, backgrounds, and platforms, and also designed and implemented most of the layout and gameplay for the game.
Davis Maughan- Age 8, a 3rd grader at Rock Canyon Elementary. He brainstormed ideas, created a character and a crayon enemy, and did the Voice-Over for the boy character he created for the game.
Merit Maughan- Age 4, a preschooler. She created 2 crayon enemies and the unicorn feature seen on most levels. She also did the Voice-Over for the girl character in the game.
