CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Hornets forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist torn the labrum in his right shoulder during last night's win at Indiana. It's the second time he's sustained the injury and it could end his season. Kidd-Gilchrist missed nearly four months of action after surgery for the injury in October.
NEW YORK (AP) — Miami center Hassan Whiteside has been suspended one game without pay for an elbow to the head of San Antonio center Boban Marjanovic (BOH'-dahn mar-YAWN'-oh-vihch) during last night's game. Whiteside swung his right elbow after a free throw, smacking Marajonovic on the side of the face and knocking him backward. Whiteside will serve his suspension Feb. 19 when Miami plays at Atlanta.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cavaliers star LeBron James has surprised school kids in Toronto by giving them new team uniforms, as a way of thanking this year's host city for the NBA All-Star game. James' family foundation donated new uniforms for 23 teams from different schools for a variety of sports.
UNDATED (AP) — The NCAA football rules committee has proposed giving replay officials more authority to overturn incorrect targeting fouls and to call targeting penalties when they are missed on the field during football games. There were 158 targeting penalties called in all FBS games last season. Forty-three were overturned by replay review.
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (AP) — Chez Reavie went 7-under over the final nine holes on the way to an 8-under 63 and clubhouse lead in the first round of the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The fast start comes after Reavie missed the cut in his previous two events. His only PGA Tour win came in the 2008 Canadian Open.
