NEW YORK (AP) — The relatives of a former FBI agent who disappeared in Iran almost nine years ago say they wished U.S. government officials had warned them that their loved one would not be among the U.S. citizens released by Iran. Robert Levinson disappeared from an Iranian resort in March 2007, while in the country on an unauthorized mission for the CIA, and it's unclear where he is. Levinson's son Dan says the U.S. can't give up on bringing his father back.

NEW YORK (AP) — He co-founded the group the Eagles and was part of one of history's most successful songwriting teams. Glenn Frey (fry) died Monday in New York following complications from rheumatoid arthritis, acute ulcerative colitis and pneumonia. Frey teamed up with Don Henley to form the popular band, known for hits like "The Best of My Love," ''Desperado" and "One of These Nights."

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — Martin Luther King Jr. Day was a day of protest in California. Demonstrators protesting police brutality shut down one direction of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. They stopped vehicles, chained themselves and the cars together to form a line across the bridge and laid signs reading "BLACK HEALTH MATTERS" across the road. California Highway Patrol officers cleared demonstrators about 30 minutes later.

CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — The family of an Australian doctor and his wife abducted in West African country of Burkina Faso are pleading with the kidnappers to release the couple so that they can continue their life-saving charity work. Surgeon Ken Elliott and his wife Jocelyn, both in their 80s, disappeared from their home Friday in the northern part of the country, where they have run a medical center for four decades.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A Southern California utility says it expects to stop a huge natural gas leak by the end of February or sooner, which it says is ahead of schedule. SoCalGas says it has abandoned efforts to trap and burn the gas that has been leaking for 12 weeks, making residents sick. The utility says there are fears that trapping and burning the gas can't be done safely and instead it's drilling a relief well.
