HONOLULU (AP) — The commanding general of the 1st Marine Aircraft Wing says he understands first-hand the "emotional roller coaster" families of 12 missing Marines are feeling. Brig. Gen. Russell Sanborn says his wife went through similar emotions when he was once shot down and listed as missing. The Marines were on two helicopters that crashed off Hawaii late Thursday.
BAGHDAD (AP) — An intense search is under way for "several" Americans who are missing in Iraq. A spokesman for the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad says "We are working in full cooperation with Iraqi authorities to locate the missing Americans." Local media reports that three Americans had been kidnapped in the Iraqi capital.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A man who was fatally shot by Utah police after he killed an officer had federal and state warrants issued for his arrest. The Salt Lake County Sheriff's Office says 31-year-old Cory Lee Henderson had a prior criminal record. Authorities say Henderson fled the scene of a traffic accident and then fatally shot Unified police Officer Douglas Barney.
DUETTE, Fla. (AP) — Officials say a couple died and their adult son and four grandchildren were injured when a tornado destroyed their mobile home in Florida. Severe weather sparked a pair of tornadoes that ripped through the central part of the state before dawn. One touched down in Manatee County. Another twister struck near Siesta Key in Sarasota County.
HUNTINGBURG, Ind. (AP) — Authorities say no additional turkey farms in a southern Indiana county have tested positive for bird flu since an outbreak at 10 farms. A State Board of Animal Health spokeswoman says 100 farms tested over 24 hours came back negative. She says that's a sign control measures are working. Thousands of turkeys on the infected farms have been euthanized.
