HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Mexikoma held off Mr. Jordan by 1 1/2 lengths in the $250,000 Sunshine Millions Classic at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, part of a four-win day for jockey John Velazquez.
Mexikoma ran down Mr. Jordan in the stretch and returned $4.60 for the win, finishing 1 1/8 miles in 1 minute, 48.19 seconds. Catholic Cowboy was third, some 13 1/2 lengths behind the winner.
The Sunshine Millions was a six-race stakes event for Florida-breds. Other winners included Mom'z Laugh in the $200,000 Distaff, Manchurian High in the $150,000 Turf, Amelia's Wild Ride in the $150,000 Turf Sprint, X Y Jet in the $150,000 Sprint and Lori's Store in the $150,000 Filly and Mare Turf.
The card preceded Saturday night's Eclipse Award ceremony at Gulfstream.
