LA ROMANA, Dominican Republic (AP) — Gaston Bertinotti of Argentina shot 3-under 69 on Saturday to take a one-shot lead in the Latin America Amateur Championship, leaving him one round away from playing in this year's Masters.

Bertinotti, a junior at Campbell University in South Carolina, was at 5-under 211 at the Casa De Campo's Teeth of the Dog course.

Jorge Garcia of Venezuela had a 69 and was one shot behind, with Alejandro Tosti of Argentina another shot back after a 73. Nicolas Echavarria of Colombia, who had the 36-hole lead, shot 77 and was three behind.

The winner of the Latin America Amateur Championship earns an invitation to the Masters this year, and he will be exempt into final qualifying for the British Open and U.S. Open.
