MUSCATINE, Iowa (AP) — A Muscatine preschool shut down by a damaging water leak is hoping to reopen next week.
The Muscatine Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1SmIToU ) that Happy Time Preschool had been set resume classes on Jan. 5 after closing for Christmas break. But when employees prepared for classes to resume, they discovered melting snow on the building's flat roof had leaked in.
That has required testing for mold before children are allowed to come back, leaving parents scrambling to find temporary care for their young children.
Preschool director Natalie Lothspeich says Happy Time has 90 students ages 3 to 5.
Lothspeich is hopeful the tests come back negative. If that's the case, classes will likely resume Tuesday. Lothspeich says officials are still formulating an alternate plan if the results are positive.
