Maine upsets American East leader Albany 81-79

ORONO, Maine (AP) — Reserve Ussac Vann led Maine with 19 points to help the Black Bears upset American East leader Albany 81-79 on Friday.

Vann made 8 of 9 shots for the Black Bears (6-11, 2-2). Aaron Calixte and Kevin Little each scored 16 points for Maine.

Peter Hooley led Albany (14-5, 3-1) with 29 points, Evan Singletary had 15 and Mike Rowley added 12.

Hooley's layup tied it 77-77 with a minute left. The teams exchanged baskets, then Calixte made two free throws with 4 seconds left for Maine's two-point lead. Albany missed a shot at the buzzer.

Hooley finished 5 of 8 from 3-point range for Albany, but the Great Danes only shot 46 percent to Maine's 57 percent from the field.

The Black Bears went 8 of 21 from behind the arc, led by four from Little. Maine trailed 48-83 at the half.
