RIVERTON, Wyo. (AP) — A Fremont County firefighter who suffered second-degree burns on 38 percent of his body in September has died as a result of his injuries.
The Ranger of Riverton reports (http://bit.ly/1PfLiuM ) that 79-year-old Clarence "Speed" Hartbank died Wednesday at a Colorado hospital.
Fremont County Fire Protection District Chief Craig Haslam confirmed the death Wednesday in a news release. The county emergency radio channels tolled his death with a special alarm message Wednesday afternoon, an honor reserved for members of the emergency service.
Hartbank, who was the Fremont County Fire Protection District deputy chief, was injured when he fell through a cellar that was engulfed in flames while battling a grass fire north of Riverton on Sept. 10.
He had served as a local firefighter for 45 years.
