MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Melissa Brown, a journalist with experience covering Alabama higher education and breaking news, has been hired by The Associated Press to help cover the 2016 legislative session.
The 13-week assignment was announced Wednesday by interim South Editor Ravi Nessman and Deep South Editor Jim Van Anglen.
Brown, who starts Feb. 22, will work alongside reporter Kim Chandler.
The 24-year-old has covered higher education, local politics and breaking news in Alabama, where she worked for al.com and The Birmingham News.
Brown holds an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Alabama.
