SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Wildlife advocates are planning news conferences and rallies today in Utah, Colorado, New Mexico and Arizona to call out state leaders for trying to keep their lands out of a potential recovery zone for the Mexican gray wolf. The Western Wildlife Conservancy says government leaders in the four Western states are spreading inaccuracies.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The family of a southern Utah doctor who killed himself a day after his 2009 arrest in a multistate artifact looting investigation plans to appeal the dismissal of their excessive force lawsuit. A federal judge ruled in December the family didn't prove that BLM agents violated his constitutional rights. James Redd's widow, Jeanne Redd, argued paramilitary agents overwhelmed her husband at gunpoint and subjected him to "inhumane and unjust acts."

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Republican Sen. Mark Madsen of Eagle Mountain is introducing a proposal that would allow tens of thousands of residents with chronic conditions to consume edible pot products but bans smoking pot. He's hoping to persuade his colleagues to support it instead of a more restrictive program from two other GOP lawmakers.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Damian Lillard had 21 points and 10 assists, and the Portland Trail Blazers shook off a slow first half to beat the Utah Jazz 99-85 last night. The Blazers led by as many as 20 in the second half after the teams traded the lead in the first. Gordon Hayward had 19 points for the Jazz, who were coming off an 86-74 victory over the Lakers in Los Angeles. Utah has not strung together three consecutive wins this season.
