DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — A lottery official says the estimated Powerball jackpot remains at $1.5 billion, the largest lottery jackpot in the world, ahead of tonight's drawing. Kelly Cripe of the Texas Lottery says 85.8 percent of possible number combinations have been selected. The $1.5 billion prize would be paid in annual payments over 29 years or the winner could opt for a lump-sum payment of $930 million. Cripe says if no one wins the jackpot tonight, the estimated jackpot for Saturday's drawing will increase to $2 billion, with a cash value of $1.24 billion.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry says Iran will likely be in compliance with a landmark nuclear deal within days, and other officials say it could be as early as this weekend. Just hours after welcoming Iran's release of 10 detained U.S. sailors, Kerry said today that implementation of the deal will take place soon. That would mean the U.N. atomic watchdog has found Iran to have met its obligations to curb its nuclear program. It would require the U.S. and other nations to immediately suspend many sanctions they have imposed on the Islamic republic.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. (AP) — The widow of a man killed in last month's mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, has filed four claims with the county and is seeking damages totaling $58 million. According to the San Bernardino Sun, the claims were filed in late December on behalf of Renee Wetzel, whose husband Michael was one of 14 people killed in the Inland Regional Center attack.

WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A lawyer for Bill Cosby has told a federal court he is considering asking for a postponement in the civil defamation case against Cosby in Massachusetts in light of the criminal charges the comedian now faces in Pennsylvania. At a hearing today in Massachusetts, the lawyer said the defense is trying to decide on the best approach. It was the first hearing in Massachusetts since Cosby was charged last month with sexually assaulting and drugging a woman inside his home near Philadelphia in 2004. A lawyer for the seven women suing Cosby argued that Cosby's scheduled Feb. 22 deposition in the civil case should move forward.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — After he missed a field goal that could have given the Minnesota Vikings a win in Sunday's playoff games, Blair Walsh has been the target of lots of angry fans on social media. Some are inviting him to leave the state -- or worse. But a teacher at a Minnesota elementary school is using it as a lesson -- in empathy. The first-graders grabbed their magic markers and started drawing and writing. One wrote to Walsh, "You have to try and try again. Everyone makes mistakes sometimes." The team says it will make sure Walsh gets the letters.
