CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt says he's endorsing Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for president. The first-term Republican announced his choice today in an interview with conservative Las Vegas-based radio host Heidi Harris. Laxalt called Cruz a consistent and courageous conservative willing to fight Washington.
CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — The Public Utilities Commission votes today on whether to suspend controversial new rates for rooftop solar power customers. The panel unanimously approved a rate hike for customers with rooftop solar panels in December. Rooftop solar companies say they've laid off hundreds of employees and stopped selling panels in Nevada because of the hike.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — The head of the Boulder City police department has abruptly resigned amid scrutiny over the handling of a former animal control supervisor accused of improperly euthanizing more than 100 animals. The city said yesterday that Bill Conger hasn't contacted city officials directly. No reason has been given for the resignation. The Clark County DA's office is considering the case against the Boulder City animal control supervisor who may face felony animal torture or killing and misdemeanor unlawful animal poisoning.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A former Las Vegas police officer seen via body-camera video in a bloody confrontation while arresting a woman last year has now been indicted on federal charges, accused of a civil rights violation and lying about his use of force. The U.S. Justice Department says a federal grand jury in Nevada indicted Richard Thomas Scavone. If convicted, he could face up to 30 years in prison.
