WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is vowing a robust campaign to "take out" the Islamic State group. But in Tuesday night's State of the Union address, Obama chastised Republicans for what he called "over the top claims" about the extremist group's power. The president's words are unlikely to satisfy Republicans and some Democrats who say he underestimates the Islamic State's power and is leaving the U.S. vulnerable to attacks at home.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — South Korean media are reporting that North Korea sent a drone across the border, prompting the South to fire warning shots. South Korea's military calls it an unidentified object that was spotted close to the border and that the object turned around after the shots were fired. North Korean drone flights across the border are rare but do occasionally happen. Tensions between the two Koreas intensified last week when the North conducted a nuclear test.
BRUSSELS (AP) — Belgian investigators say they have now identified three homes the Paris attackers used to carry out the November 13 assault. The Belgian prosecutor's office says the suspects used two apartments and a house, all rented under false names and paid for in cash. Authorities say one apartment was used to make suicide belts.
BEIRUT (AP) — Lebanon has taken in about a million Syrian refugees, but it has been quietly returning some to their homeland, where they risk persecution or death. Last week, Lebanon forcibly repatriated more than 400 Syrians who were stranded at Beirut airport after Turkey tightened its visa restrictions with little notice. Amnesty International called the action "an outrageous breach of Lebanon's international obligations." One Syrian refugee still in Lebanon says, "Syrians have no value here."
CANBERRA, Australia (AP) — The undersea search for the missing Malaysian airliner has found a second 19th century shipwreck in the Indian Ocean off the west Australian coast. The Australian Transport Safety Bureau says the search for the wreckage of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 had confirmed the shipwreck find with high-resolution sonar images. The Western Australian Museum says the wreck is likely to be a steel or iron ship dating from the turn of the 19th century.
