SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A southern Utah county commissioner says he will appeal his conviction in an ATV protest ride through a closed canyon. San Juan County Commissioner Phil Lyman told The Associated that he wants to prove he didn't trespass or encourage others to break the law in the May 2014.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Salt Lake County District Attorney says a new video doesn't change his determination that a police officer was justified in his fatal shooting of a man who attacked the officer with a snow shovel. Prosecutor Sim Gill says his staff analyzed the video and determined it doesn't show the officer shooting 42-year-old James Barker while he was handcuffed on the ground.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State campaign fundraising reports show Gov. Gary Herbert raised nearly $1.3 million for his re-election bid this year while his Republican challenger Jonathan Johnson has raised about $456,000. The Salt Lake Tribune reports most of the $1.3 million Herbert raised in 2015 came from fewer than 50 people who wrote five-figure checks.

HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah (AP) — Hill Air Force Base is looking for people who can help oversee the clean up the environmental damage caused by older aircraft maintenance practices. The Standard-Examiner reports officials are looking for applicants to serve on the Restoration Advisory Board, which works with the Air Force on cleanup projects.
