COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY-sik) is visiting Nevada a day after qualifying for Thursday's Republican presidential debate, the last faceoff before the first voting begins in under a month.

The second-term governor and former congressman plans to meet voters in Reno on Tuesday. Nevada's Republican caucuses take place Feb. 23.

Kasich's qualification for the debate was a relief to him as he seeks to gain headway in the crowded GOP field. He has set his sights on a top-tier victory in New Hampshire's Feb. 9 primary and the debate appearance helps his chances there and elsewhere.

His Tuesday campaign appearance is at Washoe County Republican headquarters.
